Santa Comes To New Oxford

Saturday evening, the New Oxford Chamber Of Commerce hosted the return of Santa Clause back to New Oxford's beautiful circle in the center of town.

Nearly a hundred people waited his arrival in a antique car driven by town resident Jim Blankenship. Santa flipped the switch to light the tree, then sat in a sleigh and greeted children and took down their wish lists, and then gave them a Christmas book as a early present.

For a small town, it's a quaint little tradition and as a resident, I am proud of my towns effort to bring us together.

In The "Burg

The Apple Blossom Tea Room in downtown Gettysburg looked nice and cozy out front back in 2009 when I captured this image. There is something to be said about sitting street side, enjoying a lunch and beverage in small town America.

Shirley The Cat

About a year ago, my neighbors asked me if I would shoot a picture of their cat, Shirley. They had a frame that needed filled with a photo, and their pet seemed the logical choice. Meet Shirley, she was a natural, she stood there and basically posed for the camera, she only moved maybe once or twice the entire time.

The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year

It's the most wonderful time of the year....and Dayne and his momma Kim took time out of their holiday schedule to shoot Christmas portraits with SJRoth Photography.  The big guy from the North Pole even made an appearance.

The war rages on as the 149th re-enactment of the Battle Of Gettysburg took place. It still amazes me what war looks like this close up, even if it was all pretend. Thankfully I have never experienced war first hand.

Autumn Isn't Gone Yet

The calendar still say's it is Autumn out, even if old Mother Nature has recently had it feeling like the middle of winter here in south central Pennsylvania. This was the view in front of a home in Abbottstown Pennsylvania all decked out for fall.

Overgrown Ugly

While I titled this as overgrown ugly, I do find it photographically interesting.

This window is in a home along East King Street in Abbottstown Borough here in Adams County Pa.

Their whole home is being taken over by this vine, and I can only presume they are allowing this to happen because its so far gone for them to be able to remove it easily at this point, because it has to be doing damage to their home.

Reflections

I have always enjoyed shooting reflections of some sort, some more creative than others. This one was while I was out and about back in 2008 walking around a town here in Adams County.

Sunrise Duck Hunt

The difference a few minutes makes when capturing a sun rise is crazy. The top image is of a few men  launching their boat to do some duck hunting. I took around 5:00 am, on a very cold winter morning as the sun began to rise over the city of Lancaster Pa. This shot is a river level of the Susquehanna River on the west side. The lights on the route 30 bridge can be seen fading into the sunrise. The image below was captured about twenty minutes later after they were launched and beginning to power up to head up river.

Snack Time With JB

I recently was out and about in New Oxford for a memorial dedication event and my friend was there with her handsome little boy JB. He didn't want anything to do with me nor my camera. So, be just causal and patient, his mood lightened towards me and we captured a few just cute as the devil photos of him in front of the fountain on New Oxford's beautiful circle.

Jamaican Sunsets Rock

The sunsets are absolutely stunning in Jamaica. You can literally sit and do a one minute count down to when the sun melts into the ocean. We sat and watched this view every evening for several weeks while on vacation back in 1997 and 1998.

Inauguration Set Up

Days before the inauguraion of President Obama back in 2009.
This was a time exposure, which allowed for the capture of the city bus passing through the image leaving a light trail. Below shows the settings used for this image for those who always ask "how'd you do that?" Most times, my images are just trial and error.

Yesteryears

Haircuts used to be cheap and affordable "back in the day" in New Oxford it seems.

Jenettes's Olde Tyme Barber Shop sits in the first block of Lincoln Way East, aka Route 30 and The Lincoln Highway.

This barber shop was started way back many years ago by a man by the name of Paul Rabine, Paul held shop for many years before taking ill and passing away.

Today, haircuts are a wee bit pricier than a quarter like the "goold ole days"

WWll Memorial At Night

The World War ll memorial honors the 16 million who served in the armed forces of the U.S., the more than 400,000 who died, and who supported the war effort from home. Symbolic of the defining event of the 20th century, the memorial is a monument to the spirit, sacrifice, and commitment of the American people. The memorial opened to the public on April 29, 2004 and was officially dedicated one month later on may 29th. The memorial is located on 17th Street, between Constitution and Independence Avenues, and is flanked by the Washington Monument to the east, and the Lincoln Memorial to the west.

Sexxxxy

I enjoy photographing beautiful women who are models or inspiring models, but I LOVE photographing every day ladies and making beautiful photos. Everyone needs to feel sexy, and a photo shoot with me can do just that for you and your loved one. The ladies I have worked with such as Lindsey here are everyday people, factory workers, educators, waitresses, bartenders, and housewives. When we were finished, they all say how much fun the experience was and I am extremely easy to work with, I made them feel at ease while seeing their "special areas' that they don't normally go around showing. Book your special photo shoot with me soon and I guarantee you and your loved one will love the end result.
YES, I will even shoot males.....we need to feel sexy as well for our ladies, right men?

Groomsmen

I truly have a dislike for wedding photography, but while in Florida attending my dear friend Lisa's sons wedding, I captured this image of the groom Jason with his two groomsmen in a lighthearted moment. The wedding took place on the Indian Rocks Beach. I used to carry the groom around on my shoulders back in 1986 when I lived in Florida and spent a lot of time with his mom Lisa.

In Memory Of Pop

I captured this awesome display of affection between a first born grandson Jake and his pop! My good friend, Mike Hoover enjoys a kiss with his number one grandson Jake back in 2011. Sadly, Mike passed away after a courageous battle with cancer in October. This photo is one of my favorite I have ever captured and I am told it was one of Mike's as well. Rest easy my friend.

GQ Model In The Making

I love to do candid photo shoots, especially of children around age four and above. Allowing the kids to just "be themselves" usually produces some very cute images. My little buddy Brayden Shoop just rocked it this day back in 2012 when we were doing a family shoot. He just played the junior GQ man all the way. We should soon be doing some new family pictures, its been a while now.

HAPPY HAPPY BOY

My little buddy Landon enjoys throwing stones into the water while we were doing his photos at the historic Sach's Bridge in Gettysburg Pa. recently. Landon is "all boy" and a complete joy to be around. His smile is precious and he comes up with some interesting expressions.

Senior Year

Kayleigh is a member of South Western High School class of 2015. Her mom, Christy was a class mate of mine in 1984, thirty years ago. Seeing Kayleigh was like looking back in time at her mom, both are pretty as can be. These photos was captured at the historic Sach's Covered Bridge in Gettysburg Pa. If you'd like to hire me to shoot senior photos, or any portraits, please contact me.

Humback Bridge

This beautiful piece of architectural is located on Stone Bridge Road between Hanover and New Oxford in Adams County Pennsylvania. I know very little history on it other than its old and beautiful. I plan to continue researching some history on it and will update this post when I find new information. This image is posted pretty much "as is" it was captured with the camera. The camera settings were ISO 200, F3,5 and 1/160th. The only processing in Photoshop was a bit of color adjustment and slight sharpening.

FIREBALL Dangerous?

Tastes like antifreeze you say? I thought so myself when I had one of  the only two shots missing from this two year old bottle. Currently  in the news as having ingredients associated with making antifreeze, the same thing we use to keep our vehicle engines cool. Well, Fireball is here to set the record straight with this press release.  Now, apparently,  here in the good ole USA, our standards of what is safe to consume differs from that of our European friends since they have pulled it from their shelves according to this news article. FireBall shipped some of the USA approved supply to Europe and it was flagged as not meeting their standards. Either way, if you like this stuff, stop by our home, we will gladly pour you a shot from this bottle, as it continues to age to perfection as much as that is possible while waiting to be consumed.

Open

I love to shoot signs. I don't know why, but there are juts so many signs, telling us what to do, where to go, how to do it and more importantly what not to do. As a photo journalist, I like to just shoot photos of things that don't really matter, yet shooting them can hone your skills on how to "get to know your camera". This sign was shot on the New Oxford square in front of a new business in town called Rose Bud.

Me, Myself and I

Nearly once every few weeks, someone somewhere says, "you look just like your father". I loved my dad, but I have to be honest, he seldom looked healthy, especially the last ten years of his life. He was overweight, he had hypertension, slight diabetes and he was in pain every day from something. Years and years of hard work played a major toll on my dad. When I look at myself, such as in this "selfie", I do see my dad. I see a over weight 48 year old, who is in pain nearly every day due to years of abuse of this one and only body I was given. Seven surgeries in nineteen years is hard on a guy. So far, I have no signs of hypertension or diabetes. My cholesterol is slightly elevated but other than that, all I see is a caring person who cares about others more than himself, and that folks was my dad. So, with that said, I will take those "you look like your dads" and the occasional " you act like him too" LOL
Miss ya dad
